The Funny Ways Of Spam Filters!

December 29th, 2007

Close on the heels of the mail on The death of e-mail marketing, came this mail from Aweber, my autoresponder service provider, that an e-mail I sent wishing Merry Christmas to my subscribers was found to be objectionable by one of the ISPs.

I have not yet started to find out what this is all about. May be it is my offer of Christamas present as a free download that must have made the ISP suspicious. And to boot it, the content was checked by the built in Spam meter by Aweber, which showed nothing wrong with the content !

This series of blog posts was started not to whine and moan, but to gain as much information as possible, about the obstacles[and dangers]that you have to surmount while communicating with your subscribers, so that, more effective solutions will get developed in the coming days.

A Happy new year to everybody.

This seems to promise a way out…….

December 27th, 2007

Hello,

Hope you had a joyful Christmas festival celebration.

Just around the time everyone was busy with last minute christmas shopping and holiday travel arrangements, an e-mail, with an explosive header quietly sneaked into my inbox.

The sender of the mail was promoting his hot- off- the- press e-book titled ” The death of e-mail marketing”. Only a fortnight back Mike Filsaime rattled the MLM industry with his report ” The Death Of Network Marketing”.

The internet community has become accustomed to sporadic releases of e-books on the death of something or other. But this e-mail fired up my curiosity since it promised to address the problem which is very closely connected to the central theme of the postings in this blog.

Instead of offering a review of this book I urge you to get hold of your copy of the book for a mere $1, yes, just One Dollar only and read for yourself the contents of the book. I am certain you will not put down the book until you finish it because it discusses the very problem you and your subscribers are confronted with and offers a solution!

Have you ever been a victim of Get rich quick offers?

December 14th, 2007

Hello,

Last week you would have received email from Rich Schefren, with the header message

” We Are Fed Up And We Are Not Going To Take It Any More”, that asked you to visit Rich Schefren’s blog and post your comments. Yes, sadly, this was about the get rich quick schemes you would have come across many a time.

Almost all the respected marketers have cautioned about such schemes, through messages in their products, services and sales pages.

When you are a victim of one such scheme what will be your disposition towards the person who sold you the scheme? Just think about that situation for a moment. The relationship that facilitates communication between the marketer and his customers gets snapped. This distasteful experience will leave such a scar in your mind that you will start viewing offers by other webmasters with great suspicion. Yes, that so called webmaster, in order to make money by any means, destroyed the relationship with his subscribers and customers which he has slogged to build, with one mindless act. How such a mindless pursuit of money destroys the fabric of a community can be seen here.

While we are all trying to explore various avenues for communication with our subscribers, such indiscretions only lead to almost total destruction of existing channels not to speak of the agony of the victims.

The lesson we can learn from this is ” Do not succumb to greed” if you want to continue to remain in business. Your subscribers won’t forgive you.

How do you define”being careful”?

November 14th, 2007

Last week I received a couple of mails that narrated the sorry plight of two partners of several internet business websites. They have been sued for alleged spamming by a member of a safe list. You can read the details here:

Sending e-mails, in online business, is a daily grind for every marketer. This has become the standard practice even in off line business units for communications with customers, vendors, and most of the other “groups” that help to run these businesses. What kind of a system, will guarantee, that every one of these e-mails will be deemed to be non invasive by the recipients? We are talking about several millions of business and commercial e-mails that will need to fit into this system to escape law suits!

Every business person is looking for new and safe ways to reach his/her subscribers with messages promoting various products, or, just for sending requested information. If, after all the efforts, you are forced to feel uncertain about sending the message through an e-mail, how can you focus on running your business profitably?

In the previous post, we examined ways of gleaning clues from the industry leaders to address the problem of reaching the subscribers. The recent incident reported above adds another dimension to the problem. The Internet business world has weathered many storms in the past and I am sure a practical solution will emerge soon to address this devastating issue.

You can’t be too careful with the precautions you take. Just double check everything in your list building and e-mail delivery systems. Pay heed to the leaders about buying leads. I am not against your buying leads. Be careful when you choose to buy.

Looking for clues to find a solution.

November 1st, 2007

Hello,

Continuing our analysis of maintaining a lasting channel of communication with your subscribers, yes, direct to desktop communication softwares could facilitate this goal. This can apparently beat the spam filters. For that very reason the subscribers are weary of accepting this method to escape from getting spammed!

So you seem to be up against a wall. It is hard enough getting your prospects to become your subscribers. But, having gone that far, if you cannot reach your messages to them thr’ available means, how will you keep in touch with them?

You would be wondering what do the top notch netpreneurs do to surmount this problem. The way to gather any useful information from them would be to go thr’ their newsletters with a fine tooth comb and look for clues that will point towards a practical solution. Also you should study closely their product reviews and recommendations which again could give you the clues.

If a solution is readily available then it will be accessable either as  e-books or  articles. In the absence of such announcements it is safe to conclude that every one is grappling with this problem. So you also try your hand and hope that some solution will surface. Till that time keep trying different ways to get over this nagging issue without giving up hopes.

How to sustain subscribers’ interest to read your messages?

October 28th, 2007

Hello!

Changes in the internet scenario have thrown up new challenges even to the savvy business persons. We are experiencing the effects of the filters, scam complaints and various firewalls that drastically snap the communication links within the internet community. Almost every e-mail is screaming for white listing.

Studies are revealing that subscribers are spending lesser time to read e-mails. The headlines of mails from even some of the experienced marketers read ” Please open this mail”…. It is established now that several e-mails are not opened at all. Some marketers have installed direct to desktop communication systems. Are they better off with their subscribers?

Please leave your comments here. I will be very pleased indeed.
